Ron Magid
Author
Ron Magid began collecting Hollywood memorabilia at the tender age of 12.
His passion for classic horror films led him to pursue a career in monster makeup, for which he had no talent. However, he understood in theory how to create monsters and realized he could write about the process, which he did initially for The Allhallows Eve Companion, a fanzine he co-created for members of The Halloween Society, which led to a column in uber-fan Forrest J. Ackerman's Monsterland magazine. Ron served as Special Effects Editor of the world's oldest film publication, American Cinematographer, where he specialized in writing articles about visual, practical, and makeup effects for 20+ years, during which time he was nominated for several Magi awards. His byline also appeared frequently in the late lamented Premiere, Entertainment Weekly, American Cinematographer, Hollywood Reporter, Popular Mechanics, Wired, and countless other magazines worldwide.
Magid produced and co-wrote the comic documentary, Crasher, directed by Larry Torro, following the legendary Scott Weiss, who successfully crashed every Hollywood awards show, including the Oscars
His play, Dracula Tyrannus, about the historical Vlad the Impaler, received the Miss Anne Radcliffe Award for Gothic Literature, and his one-man play, Edgar Allan Poe: Once Upon A Midnight, co-written with Paul Clemens and starring John Astin, toured the world for over 10 years and is considered one of the definitive works on Poe's life. He has written over a dozen screenplays, many with Paul Clemens, including Twilight Time: Rod Serling and the Battle for the Twilight Zone for Showtime/Paramount, and High Strangeness, the story of the infamous San Pedro haunting, for 20th Century-Fox (soon to be a feature film, The Lab, written by Harrison Magid and produced by Steve Rubin's Fast Carrier Pictures.)
Ron also wrote the Making of King Kong documentary for the DVD release of the 1933 classic, episodes of Discovery Channel's Movie Magic, and cowrote with his wife, Naomi Pfefferman, The Alien Saga and The Omen Saga documentaries for 20th Century Fox.
Ron currently devotes his energies to his family, while collecting, trading, and selling high-end entertainment memorabilia. He lives with his wife, Naomi, his son, Harrison, and a houseful of monsters in Westwood.
